Understanding the Need
Trust forms the foundation upon which love, commitment, and intimacy thrive in any relationship. However, trust can sometimes be compromised, leading to doubts, suspicions, and conflicts. For LGBTQ individuals and couples, navigating fidelity and trust issues may present additional complexities due to societal pressures, unique relationship dynamics, and a lack of LGBTQ-affirmative support services.
Polygraph testing, known as lie detector testing, offers a scientifically validated method for assessing truthfulness and deception. While traditionally used in legal and forensic settings, polygraph testing has increasingly become a resource for individuals seeking to verify fidelity and resolve disputes within their relationships. However, for LGBTQ individuals, accessing polygraph testing services that are sensitive to their identities and experiences can be challenging.

The day of the test:
The day of the test:
On the day of the test, you can come to the appointment as a couple or just the person testing. First, you will talk to the examiner about what brought you to this point today. The examiner will want to know some background about your relationship and will ask you some questions. If you have formulated your own questions the examiner will look over them. If you don’t have the questions figured out, the examiner will help you.

The questions must be concise and to the point, answerable with a yes or no. The examiner will not test feelings, intent, or something ambiguous, such as “Do you think you love her and intend to see her again?” The questions need to be entirely understood by the person taking the test. In most cases, “physical sexual contact” will cover most of the things someone wants to know; for example, instead of asking, “Since you’ve been married to John, have you passionately kissed another man?” plus “Since you’ve been married to John, have you had sex with anyone else?” Those two questions can be asked by saying, “Since you’ve been married to John, have you had physical sexual contact with anyone else?”. On any mixed issue test like this, you can have a maximum of four questions. You may ask why; the reason is so the test is as accurate as possible. The more questions, the less accurate the test will be.
